Types of Cleanings:

When Dr. Braich performs your initial dental examination or your periodical oral examination, he may recommend different types of dental cleanings. Listed below are explanations of those different types of dental cleanings.

Prophylaxis - a routine cleaning of healthy teeth and gums, above the gumline. This procedure will remove normal plaque build up and polish the teeth.

Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing - Per Quadrant. This procedure will remove moderate to heavy plaque, bacteria and tartar from the teeth both above and below the gumline.

Therapeutic Scaling (Debridement) - This procedure will remove moderate to heavy plaque, bacteria and tartar from the teeth above the gumline in the presence of unhealthy gums.

Periodontal Maintenance Procedures (Following Active Treatment for gum disease). This procedure is performed after a patient has had periodontal treatment. This procedure will remove plaque, bacteria and tartar, and will also include a polishing of the teeth.
