Teeth may need to be removed for a number of reasons, usually due to extensive decay, ‘‘gum’’ disease, or trauma resulting in painful, abscessed and/or loose teeth or teeth too badly damaged to be saved by root canal therapy. In some non-emergency situations involving one or several teeth, we will evaluate and treat you at the same visit provided we can use local anesthesia (often referred to as ‘‘Novocaine®’’). We have developed techniques to remove teeth painlessly and with efforts to always save supporting bone and gum tissues. This is important so there are good structures to later support the placement of implants, bridges, or dentures for the best possible functional and cosmetic results. Not restoring missing teeth can lead to several problems such as shifting teeth, difficulty chewing, and malocclusion.
